What You Get With Every Local Move

Local moving in the DC area is priced hourly from the moment we arrive at your door to the moment the last box is placed at your new address. Your rate is all-in — there's no separate truck rental, no fuel surcharge, and no charge for us driving to your home.

The DMV's dense neighborhoods, narrow streets, and high-rise buildings require movers who know the area. Our crews regularly work in Capitol Hill row houses, Rosslyn high-rises, Bethesda townhomes, and Fairfax suburbs — each with its own access challenges.

26-ft Box Truck

No separate truck rental. Your crew rate covers the truck, fuel, and driver.

Fully Insured

$1,000,000 general liability on every move. Certificate of insurance available on request.

All Moving Equipment

Furniture blankets, moving straps, hand trucks, and furniture dollies — always on the truck.

Disassembly & Reassembly

Bed frames, sectionals, shelving, and most flat-pack furniture taken apart and put back together.

Hourly Billing

Clock starts when we arrive at your pickup address and stops when the last item is placed at your destination.

Vetted Crew

Background-checked movers who show up on time and treat your belongings with care.

Local Moving Across DC, Maryland & Northern Virginia

Peak season runs May through September. Summer is the busiest time for local moves in the DC metro — driven by lease cycles, school-year calendars, and government hiring windows. Weekend dates during these months book quickly. Planning 2–3 weeks ahead is strongly recommended; fall and winter moves typically have more availability.

Access matters. DC row houses, Northern Virginia townhome communities, and Maryland high-rises each present specific access conditions: narrow doorways, stairwells, long hallway carries, and elevator-only buildings. We ask about your access during the quote process so there are no surprises on moving day.

Our service area. We move anywhere within Washington DC, Montgomery County MD, Prince George's County MD, Arlington VA, Alexandria VA, Fairfax County VA, and surrounding areas. See our service areas page for the full list.

Local Moving FAQs

What counts as a 'local move'?
A local move generally means relocating within the same metro area — in our case, anywhere within Washington DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. All local moves are billed hourly from start to finish, with no mileage charges.
How is the hourly rate calculated?
The clock starts when our crew arrives at your pickup address and stops when the last item is placed at your new home. You pay the hourly crew rate for that time window. Minimum hours apply: 2 hours for 2- and 3-mover crews, 3 hours for a 4-mover crew.
What's included in the hourly rate?
Everything you need to move: the crew, the 26-ft box truck, furniture blankets, straps, hand trucks, and dollies. Furniture disassembly and reassembly at the destination is also included. Optional add-ons like packing services are available but priced separately.
How long does a typical local move take in the DC area?
A studio or 1-bedroom apartment with a 2-mover crew typically takes 2–4 hours. A 2–3 bedroom home with a 3-mover crew usually runs 4–6 hours. Large homes or moves with many flights of stairs take longer. We'll give you a more specific estimate based on your home size and access details when you request a quote.
Do you charge extra for stairs?
The first flight of stairs is included in your hourly rate. A $25 fee applies for each additional flight beyond the first. Elevator access, long hallway carries, or unusual access conditions may add time to your move.
Can you move on weekends?
Yes, we're available Monday through Saturday. Weekend dates — especially Saturdays between May and September — fill up quickly. We recommend booking at least 2 weeks in advance for weekend moves during peak season.
